Basic ICE CLIMBING

Suitable for ice climbers of all experience levels. This program is perfect for anyone interested in trying out the sport for the first time or for experienced climbers that don't have know how or equipment necessary to go on their own. Routes set will be of varying difficulties so that everybody can be challenged and have fun. Depending on experience and interest, topics for the day can include site safety, belaying, basic ice climbing movement, and advanced ice climbing techniques.

No prior ice climbing experience is required, but familiarity with belaying and other rock climbing techniques is helpful.

Destinations include the Sandstone Ice Park at Robinson Park in Sandstone, MN and Governor Dodge State Park in Dodgeville, WI. Other destinations possible depending on conditions and permitting.

ADVANCED ICE CLIMBING

Suitable for ice climbers with some previous experience. This program is perfect for anyone interested in more challenging ice climbing features, including thin delicate ice and over hanging chandelier ice. 

Program topics can also include leading one ice and basic rescue elements.

Some prior ice climbing experience is preferred, but familiarity with belaying and other rock climbing techniques is helpful.

Destinations include the Sandstone Ice Park at Robinson Park in Sandstone, MN and Quarry Park in Duluth, MN.

MIXED CLIMBING

Mixed climbing is the natural progression of ice climbers looking for additional challenges. Using the same equipment, crampons and ice tools, you learn new skills and techniques needed to scratch your way up routes with ice, thin ice, and bare rock.

Significant prior experience ice climbing required.
